rennes + ilana - now open!

UPDATE - The Shop is now open!!

I'm really happy to finally tell you about a project I've been working on for the past month. In July, Ilana emailed me asking if I'd be interested in doing a collaboration where she would dye canvas fabric and I would sew some bags with it. While we knew it might be a tad late in the season for dyed fabrics and such, it seemed if we did fall-ish colors they could work as good in between season bags. (With special emphasis on indigos!) And so, there you have it! I had done a lot of dying myself in the past (mainly the first two years of college in a course called The Art of Africa) but I no longer have the studio space to work on such things, so it seemed very awesome that Ilana would be able to make fabric! All the fabrics she dyed really reminded me of ice under a microscope - lots of little crystals enlarged.

There are three different fabric batches she dyed - the first I've called "Sker", the second "Fjord", and the third "Kaleidoscope". My favorite is definitely the Fjord one, which was the last one Ilana sent me. I think she dyed it a bit differently than the others by hand painting it instead of dip dying.

I've pretty much finished setting up our new big cartel shop - rennes + ilana. Everything we have made is listed but not available for purchase yet. The plan is for the shop to "go live" at around 5pm EST tomorrow night. Since dying varies so much on each bag, I've listed each bag separately, the main photo being a stock photo for the sake of uniformity (I have a thing where everything needs to be uniform or I go crazy) and then actual picture of the bag is in the second photo. There are many many more pictures listed on flickr. Everything in the shop is all we have, so once it's gone, it's gone. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

(dress in all the pictures is the lightning dress by vain and vapid....even prettier in person, and you know I can't resist...)
