long black veil

This is a song I've heard so many versions of throughout my life. I started listening to it again recently and then it occurred to me I had heard it so many times before, but never really thought about it. Does that ever happen to you? I grew up in house where folk music was around me all the time so it's really comforting to come back to it. It's also funny to me how much all the music we listened to growing up in the long run ended up influencing what I like now, even though early on I would have said I was sick of folk music!

+ The Chieftans featuring Mick Jagger
+ Johnny Cash
+ Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
+ Joan Baez

Ha! I have the exact same experience, because my parents loved folk music. Unfortunatelly, among these great things they listend to a lot of crap too :). I love Joan Baez´s version so much - we had a gramophone record of her songs that I adored.

I wrote about my love for this song too! You must listen to The Corn Sisters’ version. This is also freaking awesome!
