this is it

Without a doubt I think this is the coat that I have been waiting for. I have wanted a navy duffle coat for the past six years and I think this is it. I have one winter coat (from G-Star) and it is awesome and warm, but sometimes I need something a little less bulky. Lately I've been feeling a strong desire to pretty much sell all of my clothing (minus all the handmade items which will always be my favorites) and simplify to some basic things that I have always wanted. Instead I tend to get a lot things I like, but I don't wear them, and only later realize I just should have saved up for the one big thing I wanted in the first place. Do you guys do that too? So, after selling a lot of things over the past few weeks that don't get nearly enough wear in my closet, I'd like to get one thing in replacement I know I will wear to death.

i do that too, buy things i like and then end up staring at them and eventually just giving them away.

That's an awesome coat that will last you years for sure. I recently wondered too about my wardrobe here: http://anneemall.free.fr/?p=1396

beautiful coat. does stel's have it to try on? sometimes the length can overwhelm, although it has a nice slim cut.

i've been paring down my closet for several years now, and i'm finally at the point where i'm ready to save up for a few things. it seems i sell 3 things to buy 1 new piece nowadays.

even with my tougher standards, i still make mistakes. so, i also buy things thinking about resale value, which is a new kind of tough pragmatism for me. i used to be more whimsical.

so appropriate that your heart's desire is from apc, because that type of buying is so very french.

That coat is simply amazing.

I've been drooling over this coat as well. It really looks like the perfect duffel coat--slim, super warm but not too bulky. The style of this coat is so classic, you'll definitely wear it to death!

Over the years, I think I've trained myself to be more disciplined with it comes to buying clothes. Rather than buy a bunch of cheap stuff that I won't wear more than a few times, I try to limit my purchases to 2-3 nice items per season. That being said, I still have way too much stuff in my closet.

I can see you in that coat. This is totally your type of coat.

I have been doing the same, Julia. I purged this summer and I'm doing more of it now. Now everything that I buy has to pass a longevity test.

haha, TELL ME ABOUT IT.....i'm smack in the middle of a LOGE/ebay-a-thon as we speak.

i've begun to realize that if i'm not compelled to wear something immediately after i buy it it generally just sits.....and sits....and there's SO much of that in my closet....

doesn't it feel great when you splurge on something fantastic like that coat and even though you spent a fortune on it, you wear it every pennies worth though?! :)

and i'm totally with erica on the resale value issue. my point, i can resale a mociun skirt for $150 whereas the bf just went this very morning to beacon's closet with THREE garbage bags of my old old clothes - $9.06. where the skirt cost me $200 maybe, those three bags of clothes were probably even more all combined.....

I own this and I regret that it's not a warmer coat -- I would honestly suggest a full-on wool (or more than 70%) jacket with that said. It is also a bit long on me (I'm 5'5").

like everyone else here, i still have a lot of stuff in my closet and still make mistakes, but i've definitely been training myself to be a better smarter shopper. i try not to tempt myself when i know temptation is near. i try to reason with myself and really consider how much use i'll get and what it's really worth (beyond the beauty -- because, let's face it, there's always going to be something new and pretty every season -- you can't get it all!) I try to talk myself out of buying everything I see and like and tell myself to wait next year because something similar will probably come out anyway. And just recently I went through my wardrobe and filled two big bags with clothes to resell and managed to sell half for a lot of nice store credit at my favorite second hand store chain Crossroads.

Ultimately, I hope to be super disciplined. I think this is a better way to live. And I think you'll enjoy it more knowing you had to save for something. And if before you finish saving up you decide you dont like it anymore, at least you lost nothing by waiting to purchase anyway. :)

Thanks everyone for your feedback! It seems like a lot of us are in the same boat....getting rid of our old things and saving up for things that can stand the test of time! Out with the old!

So, I sold enough crap to buy it, and I did...My only hesitations were in what a few of you mentioned - the fiber content not being all wool (which made me slightly hesitant in the first place - but I think I'll have to see it in person to know if it's okay). The length for the small says 34" which is generally a good length for short me (5'3") but I guess their stuff can run a little long? If it's too long I'm sure I'll return it, after all, this is the quest for the perfect coat - lol!

Erica - Thanks for the coupon code thought! :) Too bad it doesn't work for the new arrivals! If it had I would have had to return it to totokaelo and order it from them ;p every saved penny counts!

Shoot, I wish I had seen this soon enough. I know Jill (the owner of Totokaelo). I could have popped in and tried it on for you. I'm 5'4" so I could have told you how long it would be. I'm sure you'll love it, though.

I try not to do that but
I do..
So now for example I have a bunch of coats that are "ok", but all of them lack of something - either are not suitable of colder weather, either are not very beautiful for me. And instead of having all these, I could have bought one more expensive but "perfect" coat.
I like that coat you chose.

Hi Julia, the coat is good...but those trousers are GREAT! Love at first sight. Hope the coat fits well - you are quite right to only settle for 'perfect'.
