PULP, HECK YEAH.

Untitled

If I had another blog, I'd probably write this post on there, but since I don't this will have to do. I really hate to bore you and talk about a concert, but I can't help it. It's funny, I always say to myself "oh I'm not a concert person, I hate crowds," but in reality I think I am if I love who I'm seeing. On Wednesday we drove down to New York to see Pulp. It was one of two reunion concerts at Radio City Music Hall (there are a few more over the next few days in California). It's and understatement to say how amazing it was. Pulp is the only music group I have consistently loved for the past fourteen years. Most of the songs they played were off their most well known album, Different Class - though I was particularly thrilled to hear this one and this one. What's so odd is that I think that I like them even more after the concert. Even more than the music, I think I liked hearing Jarvis' little anecdotes, throw chocolate bars at the audience, and the neon signs in the beginning asking if we'd like the see a dolphin. Also, I think it was a nice touch to have a music playing from the Wickerman before the show started. Well done, Pulp.

And here are some other random pictures I took, my favorite being the one of the man with the tame pigeon on his head. Cocoa is always on our heads, so I felt I could relate.

Donut

I've been saying this to a few people lately, but it's really funny how your mindset can change in a matter of a couple of months. December and January were hard months for me (mostly for personal reasons, but some business reasons too.) Lots of things started to change for the better in February, so I can't credit any one thing for my new positive attitude, but I'm really happy to be happier. I'm exercising a lot more, my vision has become a little more stable, and I'm talking to more people. They seem like simple things, but I'm not taking them for granted because they mean so much.

So much has happened in the past week! I took a brief trip down to New York to meet up with these two lovely ladies and I had a great time! I can't wait to see both of them again. Sometimes I can't believe how fortunate I've been to meet so many amazing people through this blog. Okay, maybe I'm being a little sentimental here, but it's all true!

There is one more thing that's happening right now that I'm so excited about, but I'll tell you more when things are set in stone - I don't want to jinx it! There are some business changes afoot and I can't wait to let you in on that.

Oh, and that's a hazelnut donut from the Donut Plant in New York. I could eat one every day.

It's kind of amazing all the great things you can see and do in one weekend, so much so that it's hard to believe we're back home again. One resolution I'm working on this year is being more pro-active about what I do with my time. I used to always think one weekend was too short of a time for a trip, but I think I've proved myself wrong. I'd always love more time in New York, but you work with what you have and usually it turns out pretty awesome. I love walking around cities - there's always so much to look at! From food to books to shopping it seems I could walk for hours and never get tired. Of course the best times are always spent with good friends eating food and laughing. I can never get enough of that.

On side note, on a totally different topic (yet one I think near and dear in the hearts of many of us) is that I finally found the perfect pair of jeans. It came as a shocker too. The last pair of jeans I found that fit right in this style was from the Gap 6 years ago (long since falling apart). These Uniqlo jeans (called the super skinny fit tapered low rise) have all of the following : dark wash, thick sturdy denim, only a teeny bit of stretch, good fit, no pocket embroidery, short inseam, correct proportions, affordable, skinny straight fit without being jeggings, and a medium/lowish rise. Since I've waited six years to find pants like this I bought two pairs. I really recommend them if you are around 5'4" and under and have trouble finding pants that fit you right. They are kind of similar to the J Crew toothpick but they fit way better. They also run big, I bought 2 sizes down from my normal pants size. Maybe I'm assuming too much in thinking talking about jeans is interesting, but so many of us seem to have trouble finding the right fit that I thought I'd mention it.

Hello! We just got back from our trip and apparently the only pictures I took were at the Cloisters. Go figure, I'm a sucker for this stuff. Have you been to this Museum? I really love it. The gardens are quite nice, even in December lots of plants were growing.

While we were there we got to see the Lewis Chessmen, a group of Chess figurines on loan from the British Museum. I'm kind of obsessed with them now, wish I had bought the T-Shirt. The image above is from the Met website, but if you google them you can see all the other ones. The carvings on them are amazing! And their little faces have so much character too.

I got this awesome hat from Annie at the sale! It's so warm! The whole hat is pretty awesome, but the pom-pom is particularly awesome.

I bought some tea with Erica at Dean and Delucas. (Does this count as taking a picture of my food, haha?!) It tastes really good. I'm going to go have a cup right now.

Thanks so much for everyone who came to the sale, it was so fun! Ellen, Ilana, and Alexandra did such a great job making it come together and I was so happy to be a part of it! There will be a big shop update tonight or tomorrow, so stay tuned!

March has, without a doubt, probably been the most insane month of my life. First things first, our trip to New York was great and I'm glad we went. We arrived on Thursday and just got back this evening. Friday was spent dilated in the doctors most of the day, and was then followed by a phone call from our upstairs neighbors / landlord that our apartment had been broken into. Can I just say, WTF? This seemed to set our trip off to a bit of a rocky start and needless to say we found it a bit tricky to get back up on our feet again. It just seemed like one thing after another. Luckily not much was stolen and nothing was vandalized but it still has left a bitter taste in my mouth given that it happened in the middle of broad daylight on a Friday morning. I've always been a very safe and cautious person but it still makes me have a weird feeling in my stomach thinking - what if I had been home working like any other day? Do I need to start keeping a baseball bat in the closet?

But, back to our trip. Our hotel was awesome, although somewhat oddly located in the middle of the financial district. But I'll take what I can get with a good priceline deal. Saturday and Sunday we walked around a lot - we went and saw Highline Park (which Kristien had recommended) and loved it! I'm so glad we got to see it - Jesse and I are big fans of anything train/industrial/old world travel related so this was a real treat to check out - so much so I couldn't believe I hadn't heard about it before! We also got to eat at Tomoe, which a few of your had suggested, and it was delicious!

Saturday night we had dinner at a great Japanese soba noodle restaurant with one my besties from days of old - great conversation and lots of catching up and lots of eating. It's so nice to still have strong connections with people I've known for a long time.

Shopping - I told myself it was okay to do some of this because things had been rough lately. At first I told myself I really didn't need to get anything. I soon learned otherwise after a few trips to both Muji locations and somehow picked up two dresses - both navy - a bundle of socks, two shirts for Jesse, and some bits and bobs. I ended up making my way (for the first time) to check out the Meat Packing district and going to Martin Margiela to try on the tabi flats. They are amazing - a little less sturdy than I imagined (similar to the weight of repettos), but still amazing. They didn't have my size thank goodness, but I tried on the 38's and they were probably about a half size too big - I'm a 7/7.5 and I probably need the 37.5. Still, this was good information to acquire for future reference. And of course I loved how all the employees were wearing lab coats - though I'm not sure Jesse knew what to make of it. Zero + Maria Cornejo was right next store so I popped in there too and really enjoyed seeing some of the pieces in person. If I was rich I would buy those clothes in a heart beat - the fabric and construction is really impeccable. Walking out of both stores I felt really inspired and couldn't wait to get home and get back to my machines.

I ate three donuts from Dean and Deluca's and now have a major food baby. Good thing I don't live there. I've decided I'm now going spend all my money on food instead of clothes.

I wickedly badly wanted this outfit from Isabel Marant. I probably would have gotten the shirt but the fit in the arms was a bit weird - kind of short and tight, but the fabric was amazing. The shorts were pretty sweet too.

I usually don't write in a monologue like this - hope you didn't mind. I'll try to take some pictures of my loot in the next few days (lots of fabric too - major score!) And the knitting project I finished along the way. Over and out! Clearly I'm too sleepy to be writing right now.
